6 Steps to Positive Thinking

Let’s be honest. Sometimes it’s a chore to even think positively about being positive! But it’s all about perception. Is the glass half full or half empty?



The frequent use of “the power of positive thinking” may seem a bit trite. Yet, academic studies worldwide have proven that a positive mindset is the best platform for building confidence, all-around mental stability, and factors hugely into warding off depression, physical degeneration, and chronic stress.


So, what does “being positive” actually mean?


It’s more than liking your look, smiling, or saying the right thing.
It’s a state of being the positive person that you want to be.
Just as a sports athlete trains, you can train to be an athlete in positivity! Do you want it? Ready to train? So, let’s go over these exercises to help prepare you to positively win!

1. First Place Positivity


You wake up and get ready for the day, clean up your appearance and make yourself look good. That’s all on the outside. Remember to also take care of and clean up your inside. Wash away any negativity, bitterness, resentment and pessimism. They will only seek to permeate your day with defeatist thoughts and actions.


Channeling positive output and input puts you in pole position for positive outcomes. Think, internalize and even speak out loud positive affirmations about yourself and all facets of your life. Put it out there!




2. Good Things, Great and Small


Perfect days don’t exist. Positive days do. When faced with challenges, focus on the benefits no matter their size. Develop an aptitude that can regulate your attitude towards life’s twists and turns. There’s nothing stopping you from seeing gold in a silver lining!


3. Tank Up on Gratitude


Herbs and spices can elevate the dull to delicious. Likewise, gratitude is a powerful additive. Gratitude outperforms grumpiness and highlights what really matters. Its calming effect over ruffled feathers infuses your being with positive energy. Don’t let an hour go by without reminding yourself of what you’re thankful for.


4. Hand It to Humour


At times, life can be tense and tiresome. But hand it to humour to help brighten up the landscape and lighten the load. A Bosnian War survivor recounted that humour helped him through that horrible conflict. Creating merry songs, laughing off absurdities and assorted comedic moments help him stay buoyant through it all.



5. Positively Present


Make the most of the present moment. If you keep looking back, you can’t see the present or what's coming next. The past tends to wrap its tentacles around our minds and serve up unwanted regrets and aughts. Ditch the subscription to the past! Subscribe to now!


6. Hang Out with Positives

Aesop nailed it when he said, “A man is known by the company he keeps.” Go for quality, not quantity, in selecting associates and colleagues. Avoid those devoid of positive outlooks and who are mentally addicted to critical, jealous and disparaging mindsets. Hanging out with the positives causes your positivity to grow, expand, deepen and sweeten your success with winning ways. Plus, you yourself will become a positive that others will be drawn to, learn from and appreciate.
